CONTOY ISLAND

Description

Visit a real desert island inhabited only by birds and sea turtles. Take a boat through the Caribbean to Contoy, an island bird sanctuary to the north of Cancun and Isla Mujeres. If you are a nature lover, don't miss this trip.

The boat ride takes about two hours through a stretch of water in shades of azure and turquoise you didn't know existed. Upon arrival at Contoy, visitors can relax on the beach, swim or snorkel with placid rays and colorful reef fish in the bay and watch the birds.

Declared a national park in 1998, Contoy is a refuge for 150 species of native and migrant birds including the roseate spoonbill, great blue heron and snowy egret. The mangroves are also home to large rookeries of brown pelicans, frigate birds and double crested.

Itinerary

• Pick up starts from Cancun hotel zone from 09:00 am.
• Continental breakfast on board while heading to Ixlache reef.
• 10:40 am – 11:40 am free time to snorkel.
• 11:40 am – 12:00 hrs. Travel from Ixlache reef to Contoy island.
• 12:00 pm – 13:30 hrs. Free time in Contoy island national park accompanied by a professional bilingual guides who will provide a running narrative of the island's ecology and natural wonders.
• 13:30 hrs. – 15:20 hrs. Buffet lunch on Contoy island and time for a last walk along it's beautiful beaches.
• 15:30 hrs. – 17:00 hrs. The boat sails back to Cancun.
